Sustainable house designs is a relatively new approach in the field of architectural design.
Although sustainable design is a new approach the principals of it have been around for many years.
There are many types of building structures which have been built using a sustainable building technique.
Sustainable house design aims to reduce the impact of new buildings on the environment.
This is achieved by applying a conscientious approach to the buildings layout, a sensitive selection of building material types and the integration of renewable self sustaining technology.
A sustainable building will include all of these features and will aim to be as near to zero carbon as possible.
There are many examples of zero carbon buildings available today. One of the main types used in practice is the Adobe house.
Adobe buildings use natural materials and are designed to be thermally efficient.
They use natural materials in there construction which reduce build costs and provide highly efficient strong structures.
For more information on adobe house design see here.
Another type of sustainable house is the straw bale building.
These structures are energy efficient, are very healthy and provide low impacts on natural resources.
The materials for straw bale structures can be grown locally and delivered to site sometimes without the use of transportation.
Straw bale buildings don’t require any chemical additives or toxic materials making them very safe to build and use.
Sustainable buildings are designed like most others they can be made to look like traditional buildings to suit the local vernacular or they can be made to look contemporary.
In some buildings the material can influence the design.
An example of how this can be achieved in some sustainable buildings is that they have exposed the natural material throughout the spaces.
Revealed walls and exposure of the sustainable building materials can provide very warm buildings that have a natural feeling.
Natural materials are also easier to work with on site they are very versatile and malleable to use, far easier than man made materials.
There are now more and more contractors who are prepared to use these types of materials and the general construction time of building structures such as adobe or straw bale is coming down too.
The reason for this is because there are organizations which specialize specifically in sustainable building techniques.
Due to the increase in demand for sustainable buildings the eco industry is fast becoming a significant building sector.
It will still take time for sustainable design to really compete with traditional methods but there are definitely more options available than ever before and the opportunity to create a sustainable building is becoming readily available to people who want to build new homes.
