There is a certain romanticism to living in a small cottage.

That is why so many will look to have such a cottage built.

Of course, in order to build a small cottage, proper and effective plans must be drawn up.

Or, more accurately, proper house plans will need to be devised because it is the house plans that will be required to be produced in order for the builders to actually do what is necessary to build the small cottage.

This means the plans will need to be completely accurately. But, is this difficult to do? House plans can sometimes be complicated.

Honestly, if you follow a few simple guidelines, the process of how to read small cottage house plans becomes much less difficult than most would ever imagine it to be. Here is a look at how the process is done:

The plans need to be completely independent of architectural style and, instead, need to embody a cottage or bungalow style.

This way, you can determine right from the outset whether or not the house plans are reflective of a cottage or not.

Probably the easiest way to determine this would be to examine the square feet. If the square feet is below 1800, then you are looking at a cottage and not a larger structure.

Also, the cottage will embody a much more efficient space layout since available space will be limited to the aforementioned 1800 square feet.

Such structures will often come with an open floor plan as part of the house plans.

The reason is there needs to be a little more openness associated with such a design because the smaller amount of space requires a bit more creativity to work with.

So, the small cottage house plans must reflect this and should be clear when you read them.

When you look on the house plans, they should be less expensive to build on and should revolve around being built on a smaller plot of land.

When the amount of space reflected on the house plans becomes too large then you are not building a small cottage anymore.

You want the design to be simple if not outright plain. A cottage should always be well planned and zoned effectively.

This way, the smaller homes become less problematic to build and a quaint joy to live in. Who would ask for anything less?
