Log Home Kit Prices and Other Costs Should Not Deter From Building a Dream House

Log home kit prices will depend greatly upon the type and size of house you are looking to build.

Such home building kits are becoming increasingly popular with people keen to design and build their own home in an environmentally friendly way.

Log cabin home building kits can come in many different styles from just a small retreat to a large home.

Of course this is a big project for anyone to undertake so whilst taking in to consideration the cost of the kit, also bear in mind the time and effort it will take for you to construct the home.

Prior to getting started it is important to figure out exactly what you want from your new log cabin home.

Then you can start shopping around to find the right kit for you at a reasonable price in catalogs or better still the internet.

Kit Price Ranges.

Read through the log home kit prices catalogs and websites and decide upon the style, dimensions, number of floors and any extras you may want.

Potentially the cost of your log home could turn out to be more expensive than a standard construction, but the savings will kick in with greater energy efficiency and lower maintenance once you have moved in.

The cost of kits can obviously vary greatly from $27-28,000 for 992 square feet to $75,000 for approximately 3,200 square feet.

Clearly the costs can go as high as you can afford to spend if you are looking for something even bigger in size.

Things like basements will not be included in the kit price so to save money you might want to consider building the log home on a crawl space instead.

However, if you opt for the basement for extra storage or a garage it could cost an extra $8-12,000 in a typical home.

Other Cost Considerations.

The overall project costs will depend upon not just the log home kit price, but also the site area, foundation type, labor cost, interior items and other expenses so bear this in mind when working out a budget for the build.

The kit price will generally not include plumbing, electrical fixtures, wiring and insulation either.

As mentioned already, customizing other features at the house such as porches, fireplaces, skylights, stonework amongst other things will add to the cost of the build.

However, having good sized windows in the right place will benefit you in the long run with lower utility bills.

Another consideration is that bank loans may be charged at a higher interest rate due in some part to the fact that the resale value of a log home may not be very high.

These costs have to be weighed up when you think about ordering a kit, but the sense of achievement and a beautiful new home may hold sway in the end.
