Information On And How To Install Roll Roofing

Several home owners are choosing to install roll roofing because it is an inexpensive alternative compared to other roof types.

It is an extremely convenient and easy to install roofing choice, that generally takes only one sheet of roll roofing to complete the entire job.

Roof roofing is a great selection because it can last up to twelve years once installed correctly.

Roll roofing is also composed from the same substances as shingles, felt, and asphalt coated fiberglass.

Installing a roll roof onto a flat roof requires a double coverage selvage.

This means that it is very important to install the roll roofing on a completely flat and smooth surface, free from any nails or obstructions that may have made their way above surface over the years.

How to install roll roofing

It is suggested to lay down underlayment before you install the roll roofing.

This will add additional protection to the surface and extend the roll roofing's lifespan.

You want to apply a Starter Strip to the roof, which is a seventeen inch wide strip.

Apply a thin layer of roofing cement along to eaves of the roof and lay down the starter strip over the cement.

You then want to hammer in nails at twelve inch intervals across the entire length of the strip.

Once you have installed the starter strip, you can continue to install the entire roof.

Apply a course over the starter strip, nailing it in with two rows of nails, spaced four and a half inches from each row and thirteen inches from the top of the course.

Each nail between the two ends should be spaced twelve inches apart.

Each strip you install should be between twelve and eighteen inches in length.

It is recommended to precut these strips before you being installation so that you do not have to stop for a length of time between each strip.

Coat the layer of roll roofing with roofing cement, and continue this process over the entire roof.

Be sure to seal any vertical overlaps with roofing cement during the installation process.

Be sure to overlap each strip by six inches, and nail the sheets with nails placed one inch from each edge; nails should be spaced at least four inches apart.

Seal an overlap by applying a layer of roofing cement to cover the entire sheet.

Seal the hips and ridges in the same way, and finalize by trimming any access rakes.
