How to Install Metal Roofing

"A guide which explains the steps involved in how to install metal roofing"

Putting a metal roof on your home might be trickier than one of asphalt shingles but once done, you will have a roof that needs less maintenance and lasts longer than a traditional roof.

First you will need to measure the roof on your home to determine the amount of metal roofing you will need to cover the roof.

It is always good to figure a little overage for those inadvertent mistakes that will happen and for the required overlap between panels.

This is so you don’t want to have to run back to the store while you’re working or risk the home store not having the right type of paneling when you return.

If you save your receipt, most stores will let you return unused product later.

Then gather all the materials and tools you will need before install metal roofing:

The last thing you want is to need a tool and it is ten feet below on the ground.

It is also a good idea to have another person to help put the panels onto the roof and hold them in place while they are secured to the roof.

You can remove the old roof first but this is not required. If not, simply place wood slating every two feet laterally on the roof to allow the roof to provide a base. This also provides sound insulation.

Begin installing this type of roof from the side overlapping each piece as you go, bolting each piece firming to the base you created.

Use the metal snips to make cuts necessary to fit around vents and pipes.

Come back later and use the correct flashing materials to seal the joints and make them watertight.

Once both sides of your roof are complete, you will are ready to install a pre-bent ridge or use a metal bender to bend a piece to the correct angle of your roof.

Screw the ridge firmly on the joints and seal per the manufacturer instructions.

Now you will have a roof to enjoy that will last for a while.
