In-Situ Concrete

There are various organizations who work with people who have chosen to use concrete within their projects.

In situ concrete is a very popular material the technique involved in laying it is used in most building projects.

It is used primarily in foundations and for forming the structural base of buildings. It is poured as a liquid into form work and channels created during the initial stages of the building work.

The channels are made to specific sizes which allow for concrete to be poured in equal amounts forming a structural base.

In-situ concrete can be used to provide a broad range of uses from small house foundations and floor structures to medium sized apartment blocks to large scale civil engineering projects.

Concrete can be adapted and set up to form a very strong and resistant material.

In most cases in situ concrete is reinforced to enhance it’s physical properties.

This is done by using steel reinforcement which is laid within the form work creating an inner structural frame.

This then makes the concrete twice as strong and ideal for structures which have to withstand large forces exerted on them such as basement walls.

Laying The Concrete

When the concrete is poured into the foundation it will have to be leveled from peg to peg.

The leveling is carried out by tamping, this produces a smooth surface and removes the air bubbles and any water trapped from within the mix.

The concrete has to be laid as soon as possible from when it is initially mixed if it begins to dry then it could jeopardize the strength.

Once the concrete has been tamped the concrete must be covered with polythene or saw dust to allow for the concrete to dry at steady rate.

If it dries too quickly it will not set to it’s full strength.
