House on stilts

How does one fix stilts to the ground when the bottom of the stilt is under the sea.
Digging a hole is impossible.
Concrete will just wash away.

What wood is used for these stilts; what stops them simply rotting in a matter of weeks?
Is there a treatment to stop sea water rotting this wood?

Any ideas?
The Maldives seem to have this perfected, so we know it is possible. We just don't know how it is done.
