Exterior Architectural Details

Exterior architectural details are used to show how a building will look shown as elevations they provide the blueprint of form and functionality of the structure.

exterior architectural details Once a clear plan or layout has been produced they form the blueprint of the design proposal.

The drawings are usually begun by creating an outline profile of the proposed masonry walls. Once the profile is complete the details can then be added to develop the drawing.

While drawing the elevation it is important to take into consideration the type of materials to be used including the sizes and some of the more detailed specification including their weight and U-values.

The drawings must be very accurate including all the necessary information to ensure that when it comes to building on site there aren’t any discrepancies.

Exterior architectural details are used to show the structural and functional features of the building and include elements such as new openings, chimneys, windows and doors, rainwater pipes, pad stones and roof features.

An opening in an external wall consists of a head, jamb reveals and a sill or threshold. The function of a head is to carry the load of brickwork over the opening transmitting this load to the jambs and sides.

To fulfill this task it must have a capacity to support the load without unacceptable deflection. A variety of materials and methods is available in the form of a lintel or beam such as timber, steel, concrete, stone brick and GRC.

Doors can be designed to swing from one edge, slide, slide and fold, or roll to close an opening. Exterior doors are used are used to close the access to the interior of a building and provide a measure of security.

They need to be weather resistant as they are usually exposed to the elements. The resistance is usually provided by the thickness, stability durability of the construction and the materials used, together with protective coatings of paint or polish.

The complexity of the drawing will depend on the size and nature of the new house design. For large houses it may be necessary to gain structural engineers advice to get the design to work safely.
