Basements are great, but they can prove difficult to seal from water penetration.
They have to withstand the forces exerted on them by the surrounding structure and can achieve this by utilizing a water sealing system.
It's possible to successfully repair basements but, it can take quite a lot of time to do so.
Before starting with the repair work it’s essential to inspect the structure. Performing several internal and external observations in order to locate any gaps or cracks is essential.
Minor patches of damage such as skyline cracks and small areas of damp can be solved quickly and cost effectively using a waterproofing compound. Applied to the surface this can seal a basement with great ease and speed.
Application is fairly straightforward, usually by a brush or paint roller. Three coats should be sufficient to provide a good surface seal. Always read the instructions before applying it to check and see if it recommends priming the surface.
For severe cases of water penetration foam injection should be used to seal basements. The process involves applying a foam material to the outer walls. When it's injected the foam trebles in size and fills gaps automatically.

If you’re performing a significant modification to a basement or building a completely new one then asphalt tanking is probably the option to go for.
The basic idea to asphalt tanking is that it provides a continuous waterproof membrane to the base and walls of the basement.
It’s a tough material that will prevent moisture build up. Asphalt tanking takes slightly longer to install and may require professional assistance.
