A guide on How To Install Replacement Windows:
Wooden window frames eventually need to be replaced.
Replacements come in standard sized and if one fits your window opening, all you need to do is rip out the old frame, prime the new frame and then install the new window.

If you're replacing a window the first task is to remove the existing frame and glazing.
This task requires quite a lot of cutting which should be done using a miter hand saw.
The head and window sill will have to be cut in half and then pried out.
This will leave an opening that should then be measured accurately in preparation for ordering the new window.
Measurement
Measurement's of the structural opening should be taken and recorded for passing onto manufacturers, although most will come and measure the windows themselves to further reduce any chance of discrepancies.
If your building a new build house or extension the measurements for the window will be provided on the drawings these should be used alongside site measurements.
Installing the new window
Tools and materials required include a drill screws plugs, screwdriver a trowel mortar and mastic sealant.
To begin with a bed of mortar must be laid on top of the outer brickwork leaf to provide a seal between the sill and window unit.
Then drill into the masonry surround. Measure an mark the position of the drill holes.
Avoid drilling into mortar joints then drill and plug the holes.
Fix the frame
The frame of the window can be fixed securely to the masonry of the wall by driving screw through the pre drilled holes in the frame and into the wooden plugs.
Seal the gap around the sides and the top of the frame with a gun applied mastic seal. Then make any final repairs to the exterior render and interior plasterwork.
Once installed the windows may require painting in which case apply two coats of durable water resistant paint to the surfaces.
